Welcome / Bienvenido
I’m Alejandro Monroy Veléz, a Chicago metropolitan area digital and Polaroid bilingual photographer with 10+ years of experience.
Born in Medellin, Colombia, my photography story started at 11 years old with a disposable camera capturing the mood and essence of the people and locations that made me feel ‘at home’ before moving to Illinois. Chances are if you are looking to hire a photographer, you want more than just a photo, you want a visual story. 20+ years later, my mission is to deeply understand the essence of your special event and merge the visual and emotional connection of you and your event.
Keen on balancing art, intellection and sport, I am a deep conversation enthusiast, perpetual seeker of adventures, and futból player. I graduated with a Bachelor’s summa cum laude degree in Psychology from Northeastern Illinois University, & a Master’s degree in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago.
Key Accomplishments:
2 published photos in the 2012 Point of View magazine, a faculty-juried publication at Harper College and used as exemplary work to publicize for future submissions to the magazine.
Grand Prize Winner of the Amnesty International Photo Contest in 2013.
Selected as the 2017 book cover for ‘Migration Stories’ an anthology permanently at the University of Chicago Regestein Library.
